Bitcoin on-chain data for journalists

Weekly figures straight from our own Bitcoin full node, each stamped with its date and block height. Figures that come from the node alone you can copy, download and publish with a credit line, no need to ask first. Figures that use the bitcoin price you can cite with a link; the table shows which is which.

How to cite

Every figure comes with a ready-made credit line: date, block height and a link to its chart. On an image, the footer “Source: NodeWitness · nodewitness.com” is enough.

Licence and reuse

Figures that come from our own node alone, with no price input (on this page: hashrate, the difficulty adjustment, bitcoin dormant for 5+ years and the HODL waves and Hash Ribbons charts without price), along with their table and CSV rows and their images, are released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Newsrooms, commercial ones included, can republish and adapt them freely. Credit NodeWitness with a link to nodewitness.com, and don't present it as an endorsement. The same licence covers our other node series that don't use the price: hashrate, difficulty, HODL waves, issuance, fees in BTC, CDD and network activity.

Figures computed with the bitcoin price are not offered under CC BY 4.0, because the daily price comes from third parties (Blockchain.com, with Binance closes as a fallback). On this page that means the realized price, the short-term holder realized price, NUPL and the cycle Score; elsewhere on the site, also MVRV, SOPR in dollars, the Puell Multiple and URPD, among others. You can cite them with a link to their chart.

The licence doesn't extend to the NodeWitness name or logo. Third-party data shown elsewhere on the site stays under its source's terms.

How the data is made

  • We read the chain with our own unpruned Bitcoin full node. Every Sunday we take a snapshot of the UTXO set, every unspent coin, and derive the realized price, the short- and long-term holder cohorts, dormant supply and NUPL from it.
  • Each snapshot is checked against Bitcoin's scheduled issuance. The Oct 18, 2026 snapshot matches it to within 0.001%.
  • Snapshots flagged as lower-reliability are left out of these figures. If a series falls behind schedule, its chart is pulled and the table says so.
  • Hashrate and the difficulty estimate come from the same node. The realized price, the short-term holder realized price and NUPL also use the daily closing price series (Blockchain.com, with Binance as a fallback).
